Mummy Secrets and the Journey to Eternity
The Strange-Headed Pots: Canopic Jars
While preparing the mummy, the Pharaohs carefully took out important things from the inside, like the stomach that digests food and the lungs for breathing, because they thought the king would need them in the other world. To keep them safe, they placed them into four magical, decorated clay pots called Canopic Jars. The amazing part is that the lids of these pots weren't normal at all; they were shaped like the heads of four magical guards! One had a human head, the second a baboon head, the third a dog head, and the fourth a falcon head. They placed these jars right next to the mummy to guard it all night long.
