Cool Mud Homes: Pharaonic Houses
Because the weather in Egypt was super hot, the Egyptians were very clever when building their homes. They didn't build them out of stone because stone traps the heat. Instead, they made Nile mud bricks mixed with straw and let them bake in the sun. These Nile mud bricks kept the inside of the house cool and breezy during the scorching summer! Because the nights were warm and full of stars, kids often slept on the flat roofs of their houses to enjoy the fresh breeze. Wealthy families even had beautiful gardens inside their homes with little pools full of swimming colorful fish.
