Kings and Queens of Gold
The Giant Builder King: Ramses II
Ramses II was a truly extraordinary king who ruled Egypt for a very long time—over 60 years! He was a brave and mighty hero, but most of all, he absolutely loved building. He wanted people to remember him forever, so he commanded his workers to build giant temples and massive statues of himself all over Egypt. His most famous temple is Abu Simbel, which the workers carved completely out of a giant rocky mountain! At its gate sit four colossal statues of Ramses to guard the temple. Each statue was so gigantic that just the king's ear was the size of a fully grown child!
