Myths of Magical Gods
The Starry Sky Tent: The Goddess Nut
How did the Pharaohs explain the sky and the stars? They imagined the sky was a giant, stunningly beautiful goddess named The Goddess Nut! The Goddess Nut arched her massive blue body over the earth like a giant tent or a bridge protecting the world. Her body was completely covered in sparkling stars! In their wonderful myths, they said she would swallow the sun in the evening to bring the dark, then give birth to it again in the morning to bring the light! To them, the sky was a loving mother wrapping them in her cozy blue cloak.
