Clothes from the Nile Breeze: White Linen

Because the weather in Egypt was hot and the sun was bright, the Pharaohs needed clothes that kept them feeling cool. So, they made their clothes out of a green plant called flax that grows right next to the Nile. They spun the flax threads to weave white fabric that was as light and soft as a gentle breeze! To make it look super fancy for the kings and princesses, they magically folded the fabric to create tiny pleats that looked just like a paper fan. When they walked, these pleats would flutter in the wind, giving them a stunning and incredibly elegant royal look.

If you designed a pharaonic outfit out of light linen, would you leave it pure white, or would you paint colorful flowers all over it?
