Melodies of the Nile and Joyful Arts

The Stick of Happy Tunes: The Long Flute

From the tall, green reeds that grow wildly on the banks of the Nile River, the Egyptians made the oldest flute in history! It was a long, thin wooden tube with tiny holes carved at perfect distances. Little shepherds would sit under the shade of tall palm trees and blow into this flute to entertain their sheep and cows with happy, playful tunes. The flute's sound flew through the air like a singing bird, making all of nature sing along with it.

If you were a little shepherd sitting under a tree, what song would you play on your flute for your sheep to enjoy?
