Stone Wonders that Touch the Sky
The Sleeping Giant in the Mountain: The Unfinished Obelisk
How did the Pharaohs make those tall obelisks that look like giant stone needles? In Aswan, a stone giant has been sleeping for thousands of years to teach us the secret! It is the 'Unfinished Obelisk.' Workers wanted to cut the biggest stone pillar in history out of pink granite, but while they were carving it with excitement, the rock cracked just a little! They didn't get sad; instead, they left it sleeping right in its rocky bed. Today, this sleeping giant shows us exactly how they used super-hard, round stones to pound and cut rocks for many months!
