Kings and Queens of Gold
The Brave Queen: Hatshepsut
In ancient Egypt, the kings were usually men, but Queen Hatshepsut was totally different! She was an incredibly strong and clever woman who decided to rule Egypt as a great Pharaoh. Because she wanted people to respect her just like the male kings, she wore men's royal clothes and even tied on a fake beard made of wood and gold during big celebrations! During her time, she didn't fight wars; instead, she sent massive ships on long trading journeys to bring back incense, trees, and wonderful animals like monkeys and leopards. She also built an amazing temple right in the heart of the mountain that still stands tall today.
